break even
break even is a campaign I created for my senior thesis project. This campaign focuses on empowering a younger generation of students to break the professional stereotypes that exist within workplaces. break even believes that in order for our nation to reach true workplace equity, we need to include all genders into important conversations. All students need to be encouraged to strive for higher goals and that they are not limited to what they can achieve based on their gender. I created and designed the break even campaign with the hope to inspire, inform and involve students starting at a younger age to strive for their own goals.
break even consists of educational poster series, an interactive hand bound journal, and exhibition takeaways.

Information Poster Series
This poster series was created to highlight common workplace stereotypes. Designed to be placed in classrooms and campuses across the nation, each poster was designed to adhere to a wide audience range of middle schoolers to college students. Inspired by information graphic artists, Edward Tufte and Richard Saul Wurman, this series offers substantial information while also making it simple enough to understand for younger audiences. Each poster uses space, color, and shape to visually represent the highlighted statistic in order to further focus on the workplace discrepancies.
flip it journal
Along with the poster series, a journal was created as a way for audiences to write about their experiences with stereotypes. Each journal contains prompts that help identify and get the conversation started about these stereotypes. For each prompt in the journal, there is a let’s flip it page which offers a positive activity for users to participate in. This offers a way for people to acknowledge how they can use what they learned to help positively impact their future goals and actions. Each journal was hand bound using the Japanese stab binding technique as well as embossed and screen printed.

Exhibition Takeaways
Takeaways were also created for people visiting the CVPA Senior Art + Design Exhibition at UMass Dartmouth. My takeaways included small versions of the flip it journal and stickers.
